What to build
Proposals
Eight families of infrastructure interventions to shorten travel times.
The proposals follow one rule: first intervene on the road, then, if necessary, on the rules of use. For each we set out the problem, the intervention, the contexts in which it works and what to measure.

Grade-separated junctions
Underpasses and flyovers at the few junctions that decide the travel time of whole corridors.

Adaptive green wave
Dynamic signal coordination along whole corridors, tuned to real flows.

Junction geometry
Redesigning at-grade junctions to raise capacity without widening the carriageway.

Bypasses and ring roads
Those with no business in the centre should not have to cross it.

Structured and underground parking
Moving parking off the carriageway: more capacity, fewer wasted circuits.

Reversible and dynamic lanes
Using the same carriageway differently according to time of day and flow.

Urban logistics and deliveries
Loading bays, delivery windows and neighbourhood hubs to keep vans out of the running lane.

Roads for new-generation vehicles
Charging, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication and quality maintenance: the road must evolve with the vehicle.
The proposals are families of interventions, not projects: each case requires surveys, a network model and a local cost-benefit analysis.
